Can't install SSH

I am trying to install SSH but I get the following error:

auth-passwd.o(.text+0x82): In function 'auth_password':
/usr/src/openssh-2.1.1p4/auth-passwd.c:135: undefined reference to 'crypt'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [sshd] Error 1
