SSL Apache Problem

I posted this as a general question, what's another 500 points (not sure what that means) among friends.
I am running Apache 2 on a Linux server. I have ssl certificates installed. Apache starts properly. I am loading conf files to set up the virtualhosts. I am attempting to have both ssl and non-ssl on the same IP. If I load the non-ssl conf file first the non-ssl runs fine and the ssl page "terminates" (Firefox). If I load the ssl conf file first the ssl page runs fine and the non-ssl page I get Your browser (or proxy) sent a request that this server could not understand. (IE)
Any help would be appreciated.
