Do you mind posting your iptables access rules and nat rules here?

by: elf_binPosted on 2009-09-17 at 00:16:18ID: 25353468

Judging by that posting you're problem is not IP tables related.  In the second to last post you switch off IPTables & still have the problem (did you confirm that iptables was actually off?)  Assuming iptables was off and the problem still existed, I'd use a packet capture program like wireshark & capture what happens during the conversation.  The problem could be anywhere in the network path.

Am I seeing a problem here? Shouldn't this be 2 hops -- 1 to LAN nic, and 2 to WAN nic? Or am I misunderstanding the output?

Seems logical but again I don't see notation of the hops from LAN nic to WAN nic, and then out to the internet. But not sure if I'm understanding the output correctly.

Solved.
Exhaling.  :-)
I was getting desperate, and there it was staring me in the face.
Look at the MTU number on eth0 -- way too low. I've never seen a number as low as that. The lowest I've ever had to tune an MTU is 1412 or 1492 while using DSL service.

I re-set the figure to 1500 - ~$ifconfig eth0 mtu 1500

Went to a LAN client and it worked immediately.

Nope, this is normal, it's only one hop, both nic on the same device.

Your nat rules seems fine.

Can you elaborate on how your WAN side is connected? EG what line you are using, what router, etc.

Can you also try to run the following command and output the results.

telnet www.linuxquestions.org 80
GET /
