nhdacuiq.dll

On HP Laptop running Windows XP Home recently cleaned of lots of spyware and virus issues all if good but for one error that comes up on each boot:

Error loading C:\Windows\System32\nhdacuiq.dll

Hitting OK clears the box and no other issues are apparent.  

Search of the web does not bring up this dll.

Please pot a hijackthis report. Also, try getting the executable name for which the error occurs:

run task manager (ctr+alt+del) while the error is displayed, then on the windows list, select the message, right-click and select go to process.

Check if nhdacuiq.dll is in System32 folder and if there, delete it.

You may have a pointer to nhdacuiq.dll ril3. Look in win.ini file for reference to this file.  Delete the line in win.ini

If no joy, you may have a reference to this file in registry.  Backup your registry first. Do a search for nhdacuiq.dll in registry and delete it.

If still no joy, download HijackThis

Run the program and you will find many entries. Most are OK. Post the log at http://www.hijackthis.de/ and click Analyse, Save.  Post a link to the saved list here.

It looks like running adaware once more found it.  At least I think that is what cleared the error.  Adaware found "Virtumonde" which had been popping up ie windows.  I cleaned that and now the .dll error no longer appears.   I had run it before but it must have been when there were other virus's somehow protecting this one.   So Ad-Aware/Spybot and AVG repeatedly in safemode and normal ... i guess is the ticket.

Thanks to both of you.  Had Ad-aware not worked I would have begun the Hijack This process.

I ran into a file qlupmdeh.dll also located in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder that appeared related to spyware / malware.  Supposing that renaming the file to ".OLD" is not enough, I researched the issue a little and found Microsoft Support Knowledge Base articles related to the topic of unregistering .DLL files:

"Internet Explorer may close immediately after you start it on a Windows XP-based computer"

"Winshow browser hijacker causes errors and unwanted Web sites to open in Internet Explorer"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913505/en-us

A total of 19 documents returned in a Microsoft Support Knowledge Base search of keywords "unregister dll" as of today's date and the "parent" document on RegSvr32 use appears to be:

"Explanation of Regsvr32 usage and error messages"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249873/en-us

I am offering these documents in the hope that unregistering .DLL files is an appropriate post-spyware clean-up measure that could further protect a computer against repeat infections.  If there are .DLL files MOST LIKELY to be replaced or "infected", what are they?  Sometimes the best defense is the identification and protection of "high profile" targets!
