Removing Security on Files in Old Hard Drive

Asked by BLCook in Operating Systems Network Security, Windows XP Operating System, Backup & Restore Software

Tags: XP, MS

Hi,
I have attached an old hard drive which I used to use in an old PC to my current PC via a USB and external case.
I can no longer access the files (access denied) on the old hard drive because I had made them private in the XP sharing properties on the previous PC. I have tried booting from the old hard drive (boot seqence changed in bios), but not working.
So, how do I access these files. I have also tried to back-up and then restore the files using the XP function, and removing the security on the backup, but this does not work either. I get unreadable files which won't open in the appropriate application.
Any help please?
Thanks
