Some av and internet security products will lock the hosts file: Zone Alarm; Spybot; etc.
I would check the config of whatever security apps. you are running...

Browse All TopicsI cannot delte r edit my hosts files on two pcs, one running Vista and the other running XP. I need to insert one line. But when I try I get a message that someone process is using HOSTS, or that the compouter cannot created a HOSTS file. I've tried different programs even thought that claim to be HOSTS editors. DOS doesnt' do the trick. I've checked/changed permissions and checks on the file's attrilbutes.
