How to find original user name or reset administrator password

Tags: Microsoft, Windows, XP, user cannot remember username logon or administrator password

Interesting situation:
User left computer on at home
Kids tried logging on with various usernames/passwords - no success
User FORGOT the original username that was being used - typed many different ones - no luck
To make it worse - user doesn't know the admin logon/password
We are CERTAIN that we know the password - but do NOT know the user name
I tried to browse over to a C$ share (fingers crossed) on the users computer from another computer to hopefully display the docs and settings folders - which would have revealed a user name - but alas... no C$ share allowed without... you guessed it - admin logon.

Any ideas, hack, tip or help is appreciated - thank you in advance.
