Authenticating Unix accounts against an Active Directory OU

I've got 50+ servers that need to be managed, a mixed bag of Solaris (2.6,7,8,9), AIX (4.3.3, 5.1) HP-UX 11, Redhat (7.3,9,ES-2.1) and Suse7. What I would like to do is have all authenticate against our Windows AD OU. Now my questions are:
1) Is this possible?
2) How can it be accomplised?
3) What security implications are invovled in implementing this? (both from a Windows and Unix perspective)

I'm sure many of you are thinking NIS+/LDAP instead, but did I read somewhere that Active Directory is now LDAP based? I guess Q2 above will answer that. I'm not going to implement any kind of NIS+ system for the Unix boxes. Basically, I can either get them authenticating against the Windows domain controllers or I leave things as is. (Seperate accounts on every box).
