The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. -= SSH and FTP =- HELP NEEDED - !!!

I am useing SSH Client and i have two accounts on two different UNIX SSH servers.  These servers are named:

  sparc.nic.bc.ca

and

  cs2.nic.bc.ca

From one account i would like to form a ftp connection to the other useing a SSH tunnel. This is the command i use to start the connection from sparc.nic.bc.ca to the second server, cs2.nic.bc.ca:

  ssh -f -L 4321:cs2.nic.bc.ca:21 cs2.nic.bc.ca sleep 20

and this is the command i use to start the ftp connection:

  ftp localhost 4321

I can then use the "status" command and verify that i am connected. however, if i try to do a simple directory listing with the "ls" command i get this error message:

ftp> ls
500 'EPSV': command not understood.
Passive mode refused. Try EPRT500 'EPRT |2|::1|35665|': command not understood.
500 'LPRT 6,16,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,2,139,81': command not understood.
425 Can't build data connection: Connection refused.

Why would i be getting this error message? and how would i solve this problem?

I have read many posts stating that i should enter the "passive" command while within the ftp connection, but this does not work because it does not seem to recognize the "passive" command.

I have tried createing .shosts files on both of my accounts on those servers, but that does not seem to help.

Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
