I was sent a Sun Fire V880 from another office and nobody knows the root or RSC passwords. Since the network configuration is for a different TCP/IP network the only access I have to the system is through the RSC serial port via a Windows laptop running hyperterm. I need to login to RSC in order to break the system, boot into single user mode and reconfigure tcp/ip. The problem is that the only way I've found to reset the rsc password is through Solaris, but I don't have access to Solaris.
The V880 has no video card so hooking up a monitor and keyboard don't seem to be an option.
If I remove the RSC card will it wipe the configuration information on it? I can't find any way to reset it, but surely there must be a way.

Thanks for the suggestion. I kept thinking about the serial connection on the RSC port without realizing the V880 has a separate serial port. My problem is that now the system defaults to the RSC port, not the serial port. I need to know how to get the system console to use the non-rsc serial port.
I saw one article talking about blue lights but the V880 doesn't have any blue lights and this method didn't work for the previous user or me.
It's been quite awhile since I dealt directly as an admin with Solaris. I don't recall the serial connection being diabled like that. I may be mistaken. You may want to look at this link then...

Sorry I haven't updated, I was busy. Yes, I got it working! I removed the RSC card and was able to eventually connect using the serial port. I had originally used a serial connection with 2 adapters from a Netra and an Ethernet cable and again with a crossover cable. It turns out these cables don't work, at least with the Sun adapters. I hooked up a real terminal and was able to get in that way.
The method using the flashing lights might have worked but I found that the V880 had maximum diagnostics turned on. That meant it took more than 1/2 hour to boot. I guess I wasn't watching the lights for long enough.
Later I have to do a V240. The network management port isn't removable so hopefully I can get in another way. Wish me luck.

Possibly to change the root password using above via a serial connection (crossover cable) from your laptop. Not to the RSC.
