login bomp in SCO Openserver 6

Hi,

I got the error message in /var/adm/syslog as below

May 27 16:38:41 scolpn popper[18838]: vmail at 22-5-68-200.ptr.tic.cl (200.68.5.22): -ERR [AUTH] Password supplied for "vmail" is incorrect.
May 27 16:38:52 scolpn popper[18843]: vmail at 22-5-68-200.ptr.tic.cl (200.68.5.22): -ERR [AUTH] Password supplied for "vmail" is incorrect.
May 27 16:39:04 scolpn popper[18844]: vmail at 22-5-68-200.ptr.tic.cl (200.68.5.22): -ERR [AUTH] Password supplied for "vmail" is incorrect.

Is there any way to deny/reject this connection? What are they trying to do with my server?

Can I use host.deny to block it?

try "ldd popper"
if it is linked to tcp wrappers library then odds are high hosts.deny can be of help

the result is

# ldd -d popper
ldd: can't execute: popper
# ldd -r popper
ldd: can't execute: popper

It does not work.

You have to extract pop3 server executable location from /etc/inetd.conf

TCP wrappers do logging of rejects, could be it is rudimentary IPS?
