Does anyone have any experience getting Centos 5 to authenticate against Open Suse NIS with Blowfish Passwords

Asked by ciosystems in SuSE Linux, Unix Network Security, Linux Network Security

Tags: Centos 5.3 64B Ypbind Client when NIS on Open Suse and the Password Hash is Blowfish

I have a large group of users of NIS  currently running on Opensuse.  All is good if you use Suse YPbind clients.  Redhat and Centos boxes look like they attach to the server properly however they choke on the password hash.

The only error the system gives that user entered the wrong password.

It is my understanding that RedHat only supports MD5 Passwords and that Suse supports both MD5 and Blowfish password hashes.

Short of converting all of the users to MD5 passwords what do I need to do to get these systems to work off of the current NIS Server?
