Like a lot of people, I was napster user and eventually switched to Kazaa. Though I mostly use it for downloading music. I've never had any major problems with viruses until yesterday. I use Norton Sytemworks 2001 which has anti-virus and all that kind of stuff and I'm running XP pro. I didn't download anything of kazaa recently but that seems like the only way I could have got this virus. I also own a website so I get lots of e-mails, some with attachments, so could also been by e-mail but unlikely as every email is scanned.
Now, this is what I noticed. Every single one of my kazaa files, but the song that I was playing last was deleted (very likely because when the virus tried deleting it, windows said the file was in use). Eventually that file got deleted too. So I thought nothing of it, tried running virus scan, but I couldn't. This virus also has anti-virus software terminating characteristics (ive been reading alot about viruses since I got it). I started my computer in safe mode, with all the newest virus defentions and system restore disabled (another thing a read from both McAfee and Symantec's websites, that viruses store themselfs often in system restore).
I ran the scan, nothing found, nothing wrong. So I booted up in normal mode, but again, no files and antivirus programs terminate very quickly. Other than those two things, nothing else seems to be going on. Everything runs perfect. I'm assuming this virus has a built in keylogger so I haven't typed any crutial information in the last day, and if it was of some value I tried to spoof the keys (ive played with a professional keylogger [downloaded years ago of kazaa to test how it works...])
I really don't know what to do so I turned to the experts for help. Since all my e-mails are scanned, outlook wont work without them being scanned, so I can get e-mails rite now because the scanner cant open thanks to the virus...
Any help is very much appreciated, I have tried the bugbear virus removal tools aswell as teh Klez.H removal tools. Both say I have no virus along with my scanner though obvoiusly i do.
If I could get a name of a virus that you think I have, I will try researching myself, unfortunatly not names have been provided to me by my antivirus..
Thank you very much!
