Symantec's website has no removal tool for this virus and no other solutions are offered. The virus definitions are up to date. I turned off System Restore and ran a full virus scan but this did not work either.

Description
Bloodhound is not the name of a virus, but a message displayed by Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus when it thinks it may have found a new virus.
You may like to re-scan your system with Sophos Anti-Virus - if it is a virus that Sophos knows about it will tell you its correct name. If Sophos does not find a virus please send a sample to support@sophos.com so our experts can analyse the file. Our virus analysts will be able to ascertain quickly whether it is truly a new virus or a Norton Anti-Virus false alarm.

Situation:
When you run a manual scan, Norton AntiVirus (NAV) detects Bloodhound.MBR. You also have Symantec Ghost installed with the PC Restore feature enabled
(all recommendations coming off the symantec site recommending the default settings for heursitic scanning, whether you have ghost installed or not)
Detections for virus-like activity can happen when Bloodhound virus detection technology is set to the highest level of protection instead of the Default level
To reset Bloodhound to default settings
Start Norton AntiVirus (NAV). If NAV is part of Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton SystemWorks (NSW), then start NIS or NSW.
Click Options. If you see a submenu, then click Norton AntiVirus.
Click Auto-Protect. (Double-click it if using NAV 2001).
Click Bloodhound.
Do one of the following, depending on your version of NAV:
NAV 2002/2003/2004: Click "Default level of protection (recommended)."
NAV 2001: Move the slider to "Default level of protection (recommended)."
Click OK
Repeat steps 3-6 for Manual Scanner. (At step 3 substitute Manual Scanner for Auto-Protect.)
Close NAV
