The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Registry Security modification needed

Asked by bkdar in Windows Network Security, MS Forefront-ISA

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am a LAN Admin of an accounting firm in Arkansas. I am having a great deal of trouble with users installing non-authorized 3rd party programs such as Yahoo, AIM etc.  I want to disable their ability to install these programs as well as STOP theirchanging my default Administrator password to try to keep me out..

Here is the catch:
1. We use a Novell server with NAL deliveries to the Windows based PC and it requires them to have Administrator access. Limiting their access wont fix the issue.
2. I want to be able to make all changes via registry or any other method via a local or autorun proceedure so that they wont know its happened. (I am attempting to create a precedent that can be applied to our other offices, with limited support from my superiors.. They call it plausable deniability and dont want it implemented globally until I prove it within my office.)
and finally
3 I want to prevent them from modifying the Default Administrator account and password. I have found tips on Technet that allow removal of the "Passwords control" and the "Manage menu item" but I would like it to be a little less obvious. If possible I'd like the solution to be able to change my password back or change it to what it should be at login.

Any and all Help is GREATLY appreciated!  I'm offering 500 points for a solution.

Sincerely,
Brian
