Browse All TopicsOk our network is as follows - windows 2003 SBS with exchange 2003 - exchange is running GFI antivirus protection which we already paid for and is running great no need to change. Client computers are running XP PRO with retail versions of Norton 2003 or 2004 which are all about to expire and I really don’t want to renew them. I want to go ahead and upgrade to an enterprise antivirus solution that is cheaper than Norton. Something that can be centrally administered, any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's not cheaper, but it's the same system both for your servers including email, and for your client computers:

I'm using the Trend Micro anti-virus-suite and SoftScan anti-spam, and haven't got any of my servers or computers infected since 1999, and I'm using PestPatrol anti-spyware since 2004.

adpro,
Is cost the only reason that you want to replace Norton/SAV?
If so, I would reconsider your requirements in an A/V solution, but I have folks running in the same environment as you and that are happy using Enterprise Symantec, McAfee, CA, and TrendMicro. All four solutions are roughly the same cost and could change based on your sales rep and your procurement team's ability to negotiate the best deal.
When I say that you should reconsider your A/V requirements and rationale to move away from SAV, I mean that you should also state whether or not you are happy with SAV's ability to detect, remove, and stay up-to-date on A/V...there are many opinions on this--good and bad. You need to decide if you want to move away from SAV because it's just not good enough for you.
If it is, get several quotes and let the vendors bid on your account and make it a pricing war.
If not, determine who are the best A/V solutions and then get competitive Enterprise licensing.
Symantec/Norton A/V performance as of late:

Trendmicro, McAfee, and Panda are much more effective and timely in their response to new outbreaks as of late.
I hardly know when Trend runs scans and I am using my system, while my system becomes bogged down running Norton.
There are a lot of reviews on this already:

Both PCMagazine and CNet are very credible review sites, but what is funny in BOTH reviews is that the editors were positive, while their users hated it.
