I have formatted my pc, several times, but when i finish installing it , and do a virusscan he still finds virusses or trojans on the pc. How can i COMPLETELY remove everything from the harddrive and then reinstall windows?
Isnt there any Dos like program which boots from a diskette, and overwrite all data on the HD so that everything is gone, before i reinstall windows?
You're help is very appreciated.

Hi winklermario,
There are some viruses (I Believe) that place themselves in the partition table of the disk, and so cannot be removed by a normal fdisk & format. I once acquired a HD corrupted in this way. I managed to salvage it by downloading the utility programs from the disk manufacturer, booting off a clean FD, and running the low level format utility. (These days not a true format, but it does write zeroes to every sector of the disk, including the partition table.)

What version of Windows are you using?
If XP when installing make sure you do a full format after deleting the partion and not a quick format.
If your using an older version of WIndows use Fdisk and delete all partitons. Once re-installed do all your virus checking and ad a firewall solution before connecting to the Internet.
