No change: Still not working
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsHi all:
I recently moved up to a set of AMD 3500+ 64 939 machines with Abit MoBos (Nvidia 4 chipset). After getting all my programs and configs setup in a model machine I ghosted the image to the rest. To avoid problems I didn't image DeepFreeze but rather installed it directly in one of the machines as I had done in my previous setup.
DeepFreeze seems to install correctly, but the icon doesn't show in the taskbar. I can't invoke it with CTRL-ALT-SHFT-F6 either. When I look in MSCONFIG it's there as it should be, as the DF5Serv.exe service. I can't uninstall it because it says I first have to disable it. I tried using the command line, but anything I do either returns the same message or none at all. The machine is not in a frozen state at all, I can erase or add so Deep Freeze is installed, but not working.
I wrote Faronics about this, but haven't received an answer yet and I'm desperate. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Got the answer from Faronics tech support (thanks Mike!):
The problem residens in the NVidia NForce 4 chipset. Solution is to change the NVidia controller as follows:
Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / IDE ATA-ATAPI drivers /
choose one (in my case: NVIDIA NForce4 ADMA controller) / Properties / Driver / Update driver /
No (to the Do you wish Windows to ... question ) / Install from a list / Don't find, I´ll choose from a list /
choose Standard PCI IDE Dual Channel / Next / etc all the way back home
That's it! DeepFreeze is back!

ps: Win XP Pro SP2. I'm now doing a CHKDSK - can't hurt - and uninstalled Partition Magic, Symantec Ghost Client and other none essential stuff that hadn't bothered DeepFreeze before but I can safely eliminate from my rig anyhow.
