The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Migration from SUS to WSUS fails

Asked by LindaBobzien in Windows Network Security

I'm having a problem getting the wsusutil.exe to migrate the approval list from the the old sus server.  The command "wsusutil.exe /content \\nts-http\sus\content\cabs /approvals nts-http "All Computers" /log Remote_Migration.log" fails.  I got this command directly from the migration documentation provided by Microsoft.  The error in the log is "Error: Could not connect to the specified SUS 1.0 server".  I tried changing the server name to nts-http.cmicro.com and the IP address with the same result.  Then, I tried breaking the process up by moving the content then approvals.  The content moved over just fine but the approvals portion generated the same error.

Has anyone else ran into this?  Technet is pretty light on documenting this . . . they don't even have a manual migration method that I could find.  That would be fine with me as once this thing is tested I'm killing SUS so it is a one time task.

BTW - New machine is a 2003 server and old machine is a 2000 server.  Probably not important but the IIS services are different and the documentation says "This command-line utility uses HTTP to get approvals and SMB to copy updates from a remote SUS installation" so that may be a problem.  Typing that last line in makes me wonder if some of the IE security featues of 2003 may be getting in the way but if that was the case the content would've failed to move too.  Hmmm . . .

Any suggestions?  In the long run I can just Sync WSUS and go through all the approvals again . . . all 10 trillion of them!
