Why don't you just get what you need off the USB flash drive and re-format it ?
In all likelihood, if there's a virus, it is also infecting your hard drive.

Are you certain that your anti-virus signatures are up to date?  Have you tried a different AV?

http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Main/view/Download-Free-Products.html

I would also run AdAware against the drive. If all this fails, I would do as gunnimar suggests and reformat the drive.

Thanks for helping,
@gunnimar: because I want to know the name of the virus ;), and there are many folders in my drive, so if I delete them manually, there are a lots of work to do. The virus infected my flash drive from another computer and I haven't executed them so I think my hard disk hasn't been affected.
@valicon: yes, my last update is on 8/9/2006. I haven't tried another AV yet. I want to know if anybody was infected with a virus like mine.

I have seen a virus that would rename folders and files with an .exe a few years back...

by: dttriPosted on 2006-08-10 at 19:56:49ID: 17293303

No, it doesn't rename files or folders. It just create a new file with the same name as the folder containing it and has the .exe extension.

For example, I have a "Test" folder, then it created a "Test.exe" file inside "Test" folder.

I have problem like u, and use Mcafee Antivirus, (or Mcafee Antivirus Enterprise) with lastest update, scan it and kill ok
Good luck

Please restart the PC from Safe Mode and turn off System Restore and run the Full System Scan from AVG with updated virus defination. I have successfully cleaned this same virus 7 months ago.

(If it does not solve the problem, please find Norton Antivirus 2003/later and installed on ur PC and update virus defination and do the similar steps as above.)

Please be noted that u would also need to scan ur USB drive after cleaning ur PC completely.

Thanks again for all suggestions,
@Hyony: Do you remember the name of the virus?
@layhlaing: Yes, I do turn off System Restore and my virus database is up-to-date (as I mentioned in my previous post)

by: dttriPosted on 2006-08-17 at 19:55:50ID: 17339665

Hello,
Thanks for all comments.
@SadafRasheed: it is not WORM_RONTOK, I used all the ways you mentioned, but the removal tool couldn't detect the virus.
Anyway, a friend told me that this virus is from Vietnam (my country) so the famous AVs can't detect it, then I used an AV from Vietnam instead and the virus go away! In case you need this AV, you can get it from ww.bkav.com.vn

Thanks for all comments so far :)

by: dttriPosted on 2006-08-17 at 19:57:33ID: 17339698

Sorry,
The correct address is www.bkav.com.vn, not ww.bkav.com.vn
