I recently had a manager leave that was an administrator on our domain. He created a user account in active directory called exchsrv. This user account is a service account in active directory. The account was created about 4 years ago under a different executive director so they could snoop in user's email accounts undetected. To use the account you log into webmail and type the exchsrv@ourdomain and the password, then you can view anyone's email undected. If you look in exchange under last logged in by you see the user's name that you are looking at, not the exchsrv user.
Like I said, that manager left and I want to change the password so he can't snoop remotely. When I changed the password it no longer works. So I changed the password back to the old password and it worked again.
Any idea on what all this user (exchsrv) is tied to or has rights to that it won't let me just change the password through active directory like any other account?
