What can't you reset the permissions on?
Are you the owner of the object?
Are you an administration of the system?

Can't reset what to read only?  Share permissions,?  File permissions?  Registry Permissions?  The attribute? something else entirely?  Can you be just a little more descriptive???

I have a file full of photos I want to copy to another pc on my network. They are flagged read only and won't copy  - when I change it - it doesn't change.

Ok... how are you trying to change it?  What are the share permissions set to?  What are the NTFS permissions set to?

Have you run check disk on the drive containing the pictures?
