Cannot get MBSA to successfully check for Security Updates

Hi

I've a network running Windows 2003 Server Standard, and Windows XP Pro clients.  No Matter what I've tried I get errors when trying to scan client machines for Security Updates.

If I don't check the "Configure computers for Microsoft Update and scanning prerequisites" box I get the following error:
"Computer has an older version of the client and security database demands a newer version. Current version is and minmum required version is 5.8.0.2678."

If I check the "Configure computers for Microsoft Update and scanning prerequisites" box I get the following error:
"An error occurred while scanning for security updates. (0x80070002)"

I can't find much help on the web about these errors so I thought I'd ask you guys - any ideas?
