The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Two problems: Deleted default domain policy and custom GPO with lots of Registry hacks

The previous administrator deleted the default domain policy and created their own in place.  The problem is this domain is just not functioning properly and its nearly impossible for the administrators to troubleshoot.  The main cause is there are roughly 200 registry settings that have been changed and added in various GPOs.  It looks like a person took the NSA security guide from NT4.0 and added reg keys and permissions all over the place.

I'd like to get the default domain policy back and get rid of all these registry settings.  I'm not entire certain how to proceed.  I could use gpofix but what about all the registry settings.  The settings are being pushed out to all client machines.  Does that mean that the registry on each client machine has been stamped with those registry settings as well?  How can I "undo" this?

Also, this is on a 'disconnected' network and only US software can be used.  So reg cleaners made in say... Pakistan would not be good :)
