The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Top Level Folder Share Permissions !!.

Asked by davidcairns90 in Windows Network Security, Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Server

I am having a problem in exchange small business server.  I am trying to allow certain groups of users, ie staff permission to not be allowed to change the top level folders in the share, ie move them, etc. but then allowing them the ability to move, add, delete folders and files under these top level folders.  Also need another group or maybe not like managers in which they can have the ability to move, add, delete folders and files at all levels even the top level.

At the moment I have setup the groups Staff and Managers.  Have set folder permissions on Managers to everything selected on top level folder. Staff have only the read and list and traverse boxes checked with 'only on this folder' applied on top level folders, and then with 'sub-folders and files only' applied as well with full control - everything selected.  Also the allow inheritable permissions at the folder security 'advanced' / permissions tab has been unchecked.

This works to a degree as if I logon as a staff group user I cannot do anything to the top level folders which is what I want - great, but the sub-folders and adding files to these I cannot do it says I have no permissions.  It also does the same thing when I logon as Managers user who need ability to do everything at all folder levels.

Any clue to what I have done incorrectly or why the permissions are not allowing me to do what I specified it to do ??. Start Free Trial
