The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to configure RADIUS IAS Authentication for Netmotion VPN clients ?

Asked by andrewjohnblackey in Windows Network Security, Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

We are in the testing phase for Netmotion VPN.
I installed the Netmotion Warehouse and one Netmotion Mobility XE version 8.51 server so far. Everything  works ok and we started the pilot with a few users using NTLM authentication. Because the Netmotion server is not part of any Active Directory domain ( it is part of a workgroup in a DMZ),
Currently all our inspectors are using Cisco VPN clients and they authenticate using RADIUS ( Microsoft IAS running on a Windows Server 2003 DC located in the internal Network) .

When I configure the Netmotion server to use the same IAS as Cisco VPN clients are using, I get this error in the IAS logs :

IAS_INVALID_AUTH_TYPE      Rejected

&while for the Cisco VPN clients:

IAS_SUCCESS

What could be the problem ?

The Netmotion Client says something about a bad password; however, I have entered  many times without success
the same password that I use for Cisco Radius Authentication successfully.

& I checked the IAS log for wrong or expired passwords and the message seems to be different :

IAS_AUTH_FAILURE      Rejected

IAS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE      Rejected

For Netmotion Clients I always get IAS_INVALID_AUTH_TYPE, which makes me believe there is a rule or protocol mismatch somewhere, rather than a wrong password.

Thank you in advance for any help in troubleshooting this .
