The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SMB 2003 Network

Asked by newbie1303 in SBS Small Business Server, Exchange Email Server, Windows Network Security

Hi, I am not an expert. We have a Dell Power Edge running SMB 2003 and three clients running XP. I have set everything up and have had problems from the beginning. I have troubleshooted and thought I had finally got everything fixed. I have called a "professional" in but went I was explaining to him my errors I realized that I had taught myself quite a bit and he really did not seem to understand the problems. We have one DC, one domain, the server runs dns, dns resolves. Every morning I come in and the client computers can connect to the server files but can not connect to exchange. I have to restart the server and then they can connect to exchange. The only things in event log is SQL 17896 regarding the time on CPU 1, I have had the power set to Always on but just changed it to max battery. I recently set up an APC backup unit.  I also notice in the event viewer that all of the TrendMicro services stop and restart quite often through the night. There is also a windows search service error 3013 that states one of the trend micro files hash map can not be updated and a dns error 5504. The dns error I have always gotten but has never caused and problems like what I am having now. The issue seems to only be in the exchange connection because I have never had any problems connecting to the server files. When the clients can not connect to exchange if I ping the domain it resolves to server ip address but times out. The server can ping one of the clients when exhange won't connect and I can connect to exchange on the server computer. I may be providing too much information but I am really new at this and have learned everything by researching this site and the microsoft support site. Out network is so simple and small that it has been easier to learn. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.Start Free Trial
