The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Group Policy updates half way

Asked by CCBIL in Windows XP Operating System, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Network Security

I have a machine that is not taking the full group policy update.  It takes certain parts of it but not all of it.  The group policy in question was designed to restrict access to the internet options in IE.  It also implements settings for a proxy and exceptions.

The machine will take the restriction to internet options and the settings for the proxy but does not put the exceptions in.

Further information:  In the application event log you get an error "source - userenv, event id - 1054, and description - Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted."  This links to an error in the system log "source - NETLOGON, event id - 5719, description - No Domain Controller is available for domain CCB due to the following:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. .
Make sure that the computer is connected to the network and try again. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator."

I have checked physical connections to wall, to switch, to dc and those are good.  I have implemented the solution from microsoft for the userenv error listed here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/840669.  It is currently set to a max time of 600 seconds.

I have changed the ip address from dhcp to static and back.  I am able to get onto a domain controller onto the sysvol to make sure the permissions are not an issue.  I have removed the pc from the domain and reattached.

Kind of at my wits end.  Any help you could provide would be extremely appreciated.
