Symantec AV (Norton): can't uninstall or reinstall client

We're running Symantec AV client/server.  On one client, it was not doing live updates.  I've tried to uninstall it using add/remove programs.  It will not uninstall this way, no messages given.  It's stuck in no-man's-land where I can't uninstall, and I can't reinstall it.   I've removed the registry key that Symantec advised: hkey_local_machine\software\intel\landesk\virusprotect6 subkey in registry, but still can't uninstall it.  I also cannot reinstall it. When I try to, I get the message:  "the wizard was interrupted before Symantec Antivirus could be completely installed.  Your system has not been modified.  To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again."  If I try to run SAV, it just says it can't find the program, even though it still shows up in the add/remove program list.

Please advise.  This is urgent, as this client does not have any AV protection at this point.
