The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Blocking Facebook (from myself) using Zonealarm

Asked by Kizzle123 in Consumer Firewalls, Internet Explorer Web Browser

Tags: Zonealarm, Facebook, IP

I would like to block Facebook from my own computer as I find it a constant distraction while I am trying to study. The method I have always employed is to block the Facebook IP ranges and then to allow a trusted person to lock ZA with a password. This way I can't access F'Book.

I'm encountering a problem because at my current location the IP range block I put for Facebook only works on Firefox, not Internet Explorer. When I ping facebook.com in Command Prompt no packets are being received, so the block is effective in that respect. The Facebook block with the IP ranges I currently use is effective when I use my laptop at other locations, only in my University halls does it not work. I ran a test block on ranges 0.0.0 to 255.255.255 to see if Internet Explorer is responding to ZA, which did work, but obviously I can't keep that range blocked. I should also add that as I am at University halls we connect through a wall socket, so no access to a router or anything of that sort.

I am currently blocking the range 69.63.0.0 to 69.63.255.255 and I have tried a slightly broader block to no avail. I therefore think that Facebook connects through a different IP range from my current Internet Provider (Ask4). If someone could ideally help me find the IP address(es) that my Internet Explorer is connecting to Facebook through, that would be ideal. If not, any other simple method (very preferably through ZA) would be helpful.

Please remember I am blocking it from myself and not others, so some of the tricks outlined on other threads won't help.

Thanks.
