How many of the Clients are Vista?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsHave a network of XP Pro & Vista clients on an AD under Win 2003. I have a HP K5400 OfficeJet attached to network via ethernet. We have 200 users in the AD who use the XP & VISTA clients. Each using their own UID. At logon a VBS script runs to set up file shares and printers. For the XP systems all works great. For the VISTA systems the printers do not get setup with the vbs script, a very standard script. When I try to add a K5400 to a VISTA client by hand I get "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The specified port is unknown.". Can this be fixed by adding additional drivers to shared K5400 config on the server? If so where do I get the drivers only and how to add additional drivers. The printer must work from XP & VISTA clients. Or another solution?

When I go to printer properties and sharing and additional drivers, it does not give an option for VISTA. If I try add drivers using the VISTA CD for the printer it only shows the XP and Win 200x drivers. I just don't see how to share a printer on a Win 2003 server to both XP and VISTA clients.
