The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Using Cisco VPN Client behind PIX 506e - connects to remote site but no traffic will pass

Asked by ITLighthouse in Cisco PIX Firewall, Virtual Private Networking (VPN), IPSec Security Protocol

We have a client that uses Cisco VPN client to regularly establish an IPSEC VPN connection to a remote location.  It worked fine until we recently replaced our firewall with a PIX 506e.  The client establishes a connection but no traffic will pass through the VPN - they can't ping anything on the remote network.  From the research I've done, this seems to be a common problem and does not work by default when you're behind a PIX.  But I haven't found a clear answer how to fix and the things I've tried haven't worked.  I currently have no control of the remote PIX and I don't know the version of the Cisco Client they're using yet.  This user only comes once a week and brings their own laptop.  I'm just supposed to get this working as soon as possible.  Here is my current PIX config:

Some have made the suggestion to add:

fixup protocol esp-ike
isakmp nat-traversal 30

I tried that but it didn't make any difference.  Someone else said to allow UDP 4500, but I would like some definate answers before I go changing anything else.  Could someone please tell me the lines I need to add or what I need to do to make this work?

Thanks in advance.
