The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Configuring PIX 501 to use IWSS server for HTTP requests

Asked by Zak_MakeWithTheFunny in Cisco PIX Firewall, Enterprise Firewalls

Hi All,

I am currently trying to figure out how to configure one of our PIX 501's to send HTTP and FTP requests that go through it (it will be our default gateway for most users internet usage) to go to a IWSS 3.0 server, to scan the page to see if it is on the restricted list. I have set IWSS up in ICAP mode, which according to what I understand of the installation documentation, is what has to be done on the IWSS server. It's currently listening on port 1344.

I know I can use IWSS in pure proxy mode, but as many of our users are mobile users (not always on site) I don't want to cripple their internet by putting in a proxy server that won't exist when they are external, but I can't trust my users to not just deselect the proxy server when they want to surf for things they aren't supposed to.

Trend Micro told me I could do this with the hardware I have, but can not advise me beyond setting up the actual IWSS server.

Has anyone accomplished this? Is it possible to configure through the PDM... is there something simple I have just not seen. I can see the URL filtering, but it only has N2H2 and WebSense.

Cheers
