The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Cisco ASA 5505 Multiple Outside IPs on Same Switch Port

We have a range of usable IPs (x.x.x.2 through x.x.x.14) provided by our ISP going into a Cisco 5505 /w Security Plus on a single switch port, Ethernet0/0.  Currently the VLAN associated with that outside interface (VLAN 2) is static addressed to the first IP in that range -  x.x.x.2, and that is what we use for internet traffic and such.   I'm trying to direct traffic coming in on the IP x.x.x.14 to a specific server on our network.  To do this I believe I need to set up the IP x.x.x.14 as another outside interface/VLAN, and trunk them together on the same switch port (Ethernet0/0).  Then I can use Security Policy and NAT to get the correct traffic coming in using .14 to my server inside the network.  

So I've associated VLANs 2 (static addressed to x.x.x.2) and 3 (to be static addressed to x.x.x.14) with the switch port Ethernet0/0, where our ISP connection is coming in.  I should mention that I'm using ASDM 5.2 (I'm a beginner when it comes to Cisco).  When I attempt to create another outside interface on VLAN 3 with a static IP of x.x.x.14, I get the following message:

'The IP address, x.x.x.14/255.255.255.240, cannot overlap with the subnet of interface outside'

It is true that the subnet mask is the same for both of the IPs provided by our ISP that I'm trying to use (the one static addressed to the outside interface on VLAN 2, and the one I'm trying to set to VLAN 3), of course.  So I'm not sure how I can get another outside IP set up on the same switch port.  I tried using DHCP for that port, but that killed my internet connection inside the network.  Can anyone please point me in the right direction for what I'm trying to do?
