The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Enable Access to internet from internal network using PIX 501 and 851 router

Asked by snbservices in Cisco PIX Firewall, Network Routers

Tags: ,

I recently asked for static IP from my ISP. They came in and installed a Cisco 851 router. They gave me 5 public IP's on a /29 network.  I can attach a computer to the router, configure a static IPsettings recommended by the ISP  and i can get out to the internet. I then attach the PIX 501 WAN port to one of the 4 ports on 851 router. When I configure the PIX 501 with a static IP, subnet mask and gateway and DNS servers, provided by the ISP, i cannot browse the internet from inside the PIX network. I cannot ping the gateway from the PIX Either or 851 router. nor can I do nslookup queries for know domain names. I have also used a crossover& straight thru cables between the router and PIX, and that has not worked either.
Please take a look at my config and let me know what I am missing. Also what kind of cables are recommended between the modem, router and PiX.?
I am now back to PIX being on DHCP with the 851 disconnected, and using the DNS servers recommended by the ISP for static IP's, and I am back in business. But I need to be able use the 851 router with PIX 501, since I want to do site to site VPN next
Thanks
