Upgrade software for two production  PIX firewalls that are connected with a failover cable

Dear Experts:

I want to upgrade two PIX firewalls that are in production now and which have a total of six NIC interfaces---two of these are the integrated  plus 4 additional (per PIX). They are connected with a failover cable. These PIX have a lot of Access-List for the DMZs it supports. I wonder if I can do the upgrade in the secondary PIX without affecting the primary. I think that I am going to have to reconfigure the secondary from scratch after the software upgrade. I know that if I get the secondary reconfigured and upgraded I will change it temporary until I finish the other one. What I am not sure of is if the communication of the failover cable can affect me once I blowup the secondary PIX?

Do you understand my question?

This is what we are working with:

Cisco PIX Firewall Version 6.3(5)
Cisco PIX Device Manager Version 3.0(1)
Hardware:   PIX-515E, 64 MB RAM, CPU Pentium II 433 MHz

Both PIX are the same. Cheers!
