The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Configure (2) Cisco ASA 5520's in Active/Standby failover

Asked by Vjz1 in Cisco PIX Firewall, Networking Hardware Firewalls

Tags: , ,

Hi,
I'm replacing my (2) Cisco Pix 515 firewalls with (2) ASA 5520's (running v8 firmware).  The only task I have left is to configure them for Active/Standby failover config.  I have gone through the Cisco online tutorial, but I must still be missing something, as I have never done this before.  I can't seem to get it to work.  Here is my exact situation;

I want to use the MGMT port to do the failover, I was told by Cisco this is no problem.  I have changed that port on my primary firewall to not be dedicated for mgmt, and have set it to look like a regular, unnamed interface.

I try to run the wizard, but it says it can't contact my other firewall, i have connected them with a crossover cable, into each mgmt port.

I thought I might need to login to the secondary firewall and assign the failover ip to that interface, but that did not work either.

On my primary firewall I have set the failover ip addresses for each interface.

I need someone to walk me through what I should do to the secondary firewall, to get this going.  Please don't assume anything, I have never configured this before so I might be missing some obvious, simple step.
