The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

help setting up ASA 5505

Asked by otvedten in Cisco PIX Firewall

Tags: Cisco, ASA, 5505, asdm 5.2(4), asa 7.2(4)

I am trying to setup my new ASA 5505 (ASA 7.2(4) + ASDM 5.2(4)) basic license.

One slight problem I noticed is that the examples given in the "Getting Started Guide software version 7.2" don't fit my version of ASDM, even tho both show as ASDM 5.2. I found an ASDM 6 guide which looks to have the right descriptions mostly.

Setup:
LAN: 192.168.1.0
DMZ: 192.168.2.0
WAN: x.x.x.162-169 (tho I'd like all traffic outgoing from LAN to only go out as x.x.x.162)

We have several webservers in our DMZ which are all accessed via different public IPs, and I've added static NAT rules as per the setup book example and how I'd assume it should look for the different public IPs.
How should the access rules be configured? I really only wish for web and webproxy (8080) traffic to reach the webservers. Should I still add a 'blanket' access rule that is: Interface Outside, Permit, Source any, Destination x.x.x.169, Service tcp, Traffic In? or should I change service to only be tcp/http and tcp/8080?

Attacked is also my running-config as it stands now. I have not actually tried it yet, cause I'd like to understand a little how it should be done right before I turn it on.

(attached is also how my add access rule window looks, since it's different from examples of 5505 things I've browsed here)
