We have an ASA 5110 firewall in our main office and we are starting to move the site to site VPNs across to this device. Our remote offices use mainly Netgear FVS338 firewalls.
We have moved across about four of the VPN's to the Cisco and the problem we are seeing is that we can only seem to ping one way IE: from our main site to the remotes. Although we get a reply, if I try a ping from that remote site back to our main office the ping times out. but I'm able to browse the dat folders etc....
This problem is affecting the connecivity between AD and our exchange servers at these remote sites.
We have had our network engineer look at the problem and we have narrowed it down to the
INSPECT ICMP command.
With this rule turned off we are able to achieve the correct connectivity between devices. But after about 12 hours or so the remote sites are unable to ping the main office again and the Cisco reports and error re the ICMP inspect rule. If we reboot the Cisco it start working again.
I though we bought this Cisco to get away from constantly rebooting VPN routers.
I hope I have explained this enough, Any advise would be appreciated.
Regards
Mike
