The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Changing the IP address of PDM (laptop) used for the Cisco PIX

Asked by frank_nye in Cisco PIX Firewall, Network Software Firewalls

I currently use a laptop with an address of 10.0.3.2 to run our PDM software (which uses a graphical user interface) for our Cisco PIX firewall.  I currently use that laptop to do all of my configuration changes on our PIX, however, I now need to change the IP address of the laptop AND change the line of code in the PIX's running configuration that refers to that laptop's IP address.  The problem is, because that is what I am going to change, I can't use the GUI of teh PDM software running on that laptop to change it.  It would be like cutting off the branch of a tree that I'm sitting on.

So what is the correct way to change the PDM computer's address setting via the command line?  In the GUI when you change the PDM address it also updates the HTTP address so I will need to change that via the command line also.

Here is what the line of code looks like in the PIX's running config right now:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
pdm location 10.0.3.2 255.255.255.255 intf3
http 10.0.3.2 255.255.255.255 intf3

I need to change both IP addresses to 10.0.8.2
Could someone please let me know what the correct syntax is to do that?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

If you want more of a challenge, you can look at the other question I just posted asking about changing the IP address of an interface on a PIX firewall.

Thanks again
