Question

ASDM question

Asked by: Tech110

Clear ASDM cache and internal log buffer didn't work for me. I tried Fraserc's procedure which add the line of JAVApath in asdm-launcher.config didn't work for me. I had to uninstall JAVA update 11 in order to work. Are there any other solution in order to work without uninstalling JAVA?

Hi,

The java down grade is totally unnecessary, all you have to do is.

1) Find the asdm-launcher.config file (C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\ASDM\asdm-launcher.config)
2) Right click, choose properties and remove the 'read only' check
3) Open the file and add the following line:
javapath c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\client\jvm.dll
4) Save the file and replace the read only check

Regards,

Fraser.

Ooops! Sorry, I just saw you tried that! Are you sure you re-added the 'read only' check?

by: Tech110Posted on 2009-03-05 at 08:37:42ID: 23807312

Yes, I added 'read only'. When I tried to oen ASDM Launcher, I had a message saying that Launch Failure-Unable to load the DLL'c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6._07\bin\client\jvm.dll'. I opened the file with notepad and add the line at last.

Hi,

Can you confiirm the file "c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6._07\bin\client\jvm.dll" exists on yiur system?
Maybe the path needs altering to point to the correct dll?

uninstalling Java is a 3 minute job? install this one and I bet it will work http://www.petenetlive.com/Downloads/software/j2re.exe

fraserc,

The path is right.

PeteLong,

I installed the file, however, the launch stops and freezes at password screen. I upgraded to JAVA update 12 and uses ASDM 5.1 version.

Did you try another desktop?  I have 3 desktops and it works on 2 of them.  also, ADSM is on version 6.1(5)51, if you move to ASA version 8.

by: Tech110Posted on 2009-04-16 at 12:34:56ID: 24161629

Does Cisco charge upgrade ASA 8 from version 7.1?

by: eenowcomPosted on 2009-04-16 at 12:45:12ID: 24161765

no, as long as you have support with cisco you can login and download the code.

by: Tech110Posted on 2009-04-16 at 13:17:57ID: 24162130

I don't think we purchsed Cisco support because we purchased thru the third party.

This fix worked for me - suddenly ADSM would just freeze when trying to load.

by: frasercPosted on 2009-06-19 at 06:25:19ID: 24666079

Please check that the file *exists*, not that the path is correct...

i.e. Browse to the location "c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6._07\bin\client\" and see if the file "jvm.dll" exists.

If you don't have the "jre1.6._07" folder (as I suspect) then re-install  the Java SE Runtime Environment 6u7.
