The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cisco PIX Configuration

Asked by deadite in Cisco PIX Firewall, Networking Hardware Firewalls

I have an issue with a Watchguard Firewall that has a 30 user connection limit (any thing that connects to the network is considered a connection including printers, phones, etc).  The issue is it does not reset the connection count without rebooting the firewall.  I spoke with tech support and they suggested I use a NAT device to keep the count low.  I've decided to use a spare Pix as a NAT in front of my wireless access point.

I have the following setup that I wish to slightly modify:
Watchguard Firewall
IP:172.16.8.1 /22
DHCP Pool:172.16.8.101-172.16.11.127

I have a wireless access point that receives a reserved DHCP address from the Watchguard firewall 172.16.8.61

I have a spare Cisco Pix 501 that I want to put inbetween the Watchguard and Wireless Access Point.  The Pix will receive the 172.16.8.61address on the outside interface. I have 2 ideas on how to handle the NAT.  Idea 1 is to make a NAT pool of the first 61 addresses of the Watchguard DHCP scope (in hopes this will keep the count reset).  Idea 2 is to use PAT to make all of the wireless come from the 172.16.8.61.  I configured the Pix as follows, I am getting the 192.168.8.x IP from the Pix DHCP but it is not connecting to the 172.16.8.x network.  Can anyone tell me what my Pix configuration is missing (BTW, this is internal so I want all traffic to flow across it)
