Question

Configure PIX 506e for FTP

Asked by: DLockwood

I have a Cisco Pic 506e at one of my remote sites.

This PIX is not being used for much.
1.) It has VPN settings for each remote site.
2.) It allows users to connect to the internet.
3.) Basically eveything else is blocked.

I have now setup FTP on my Windows Server 2003 / IIS 6 box. I can connect internally fine but not externally. DNS is fine, it is a Pix issue.

What is the command I need to issue to allow FTP traffic to/from the server?

DLockwood,

You are going to need to add a STATIC NAT/PAT translation as well as add a line to your ACL allowing access.

If you care to post your config I can add specific commands for you.

Regards,

3nerds

Add this to your ACL:
access-list acl_out permit tcp any host X.X.X.X eq 21

PAT EXAMPLE:
static (inside,outside) tcp X.X.X.X 21 Y.Y.Y.Y 21 netmask 255.255.255.255 --> X is your outside address, and Y is you inside address. If you are using the IP that is on your outside interface, where X is put interface.

If you are using a different ip then your interface and you want to do 1 to 1 NAT do:
NAT Example:
static (inside,outside) x.x.x.x y.y.y.y netmask 255.255.255.255

Good Luck,

3nerds

3nerds,

Looks straightforward enough, assuming I am reading this correctly.
I am using same IP so I assume I would use PAT and I would need to add only 2 lines....

access-list acl_out permit tcp any host X.X.X.X eq 21
static (inside,outside) tcp X.X.X.X 21 Y.Y.Y.Y 21 netmask 255.255.255.255

Is that right?
I have to leave and will try in the morning and award points. Thanks for the help!
