But when we HTTP to the firewall and download the ASDM launcher, it updates the files, after we put in the credentials, it freezes and does nothing. "All the launcher does is invoke the java to run it so it will usually have the same result."
It runs the Java applet from the local hard drive, though. This ASDM issue can be idiosyncratic, and I've seen it work successfully from the local machine where it does not work when loading it over the network.

Upgrade to the latest asdm version that supports the ASA code you are running. Over time java has had changes which blows out the asdm code. Then Cisco updates it etc.. Pull down the latest version of ASDM and see if that helps.
