Help with IPTABLES - Firewall without NAT

I'm wanting to setup a linux server using IPTables to perform firewalling and routing functions. i've done this with NAT without concern. However, I'm just not getting a grasp on how to set this up. Can anyone respond with a sample of how they've configured this before? I've got alot of ideas storming through my head but nothing is clicking!

Essentially, we own a class-C block of addresses on a 20mb/20mb connection. Cisco and Sonicwall firewalls are going to cost us 3-5k. I have an Athlon X2 4000 server just sitting here and would much rather use it for this purpose. Our current setup uses LVS anyhow -- so I'm familiar.
