Question

Adding Compact Flash To CISCO ASA 5510

Asked by: yostnet

I am adding DRAM and COMPACT flash to my ASA 5510.  DRAM recognizes fine but the compact flash seems to be intermittent.

The internal 256mb compact flash is recognized, and about every 3 reboot, the 512 compact flash is as well.

If there is a process to begin using/formatting the compact flash.

please format the CF in the asa, and asa recognize it...

The CF can be formatted from within the ASA with a 'format disk0:' command.  I've found issues in the past when using CF cards that are not formatted by the device itself, but they haven't usually be the intermittent problem you're referring to.

How do you differentiate between the internal flash and the compact flash when formatting?

by: jodylemoinePosted on 2009-11-03 at 21:01:24ID: 25736534

The ASA 5510 doesn't have internal flash.  All references to flash: or disk0: are references to the CF card.

There was never a flash card prior and there appeared to be 256mb.

On every couple of reboots, it will show 2 entries in the sh ver

1 for internal flash and 1 for the CF card.

Interesting.  The pair of ASA5510 units I was just working on have only the 256MB compact flash card in each.
