The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Problem connecting watchguard to wireless network

Asked by greenanr in Watchguard Firewall, Wireless Networking, Wireless Network Access Points

Hi there,

A customer of mine is moving into a serviced office that gives it's clients access to a shared wireless network.

The wireless network is on a range of 10.0.0.0 with a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0. The wireless network is connected via a couple of access points to a  zyxel router/modem which dishes out ip addresses with the above range.

The serviced office gives its clients wifi boxes that are in bridged mode (i.e. wifi in and wired out) these are preconfigured.

Now here is the problem:

If I connect the bridge box to the wired port of a normal  XP box then I get an IP using DHCP of 10.0.0.* and the internet works fine without problems.

If we connect several computers via a switch to the same (single) wifi bridge box, then each of the computers gets a DHCP in the range of 10.0.0.*

Following me so far? :-)

Finally, we don't want our customer to be in the same range as all the other companies in the serviced office space so we are trying to install a Watchguard Firebox X10E into their office so that they can be on a range of 192.168.0.0/24 and they are then protected from intrusion, be it from within the office space or outside.

If we connect the box to the external port of the wifi bridge we don't seem to be receiving an address from the Zyxel router. If we set an IP in the static range then we cannot get an internet connection or ping out either.

The firebox firewall has not been changed from the out-of-the-box configuration.

Does anyone have ANY ideas as to why the Zyxel and the firebox don't seem to be able to talk, even though when plugged into a computer, the Zyxel dishes out an address without any issues?

Any calls for more information will gladly be answered.

Thanks in Advance
