We've got a firebox edge now I've not looked at one of these for an age, and we're having an issue where even machines that are excluded can't downlaod anything. Now I'm looking for where the types of allowable downlaod is, but for the life of me I can't, this is probably a mixture of blindness old age and plain stupidity so if someone could direct me to whihc tab this would be on I'd be very grateful.

Thank you for the points [sorry for the delayed response I was out of town with no internet access]; I think you have already given points to me as assisted answer; I would try and assist you with MUVPN configuration.
On X Edge it is simpler er than X Core or X Peak boxes; you define user and then configure MUVPN settings; download the wgx file; install MUVPN software on client and load the wgx file.
Above steps are normally enough to get the VPN going.

I am assuming this is for outbound traffic:
Select Firewall > Outgoing; edit HTTP proxy; to add, delete, or modify content types:
1. Select the HTTP Content tab.
2. Select the Allow only safe content types check box if you want to limit content types allowed
through the proxy. A list of common MIME types is included by default.
3. To add common content types to the list, select the MIME type in the Predefined content type
column and click the << button.
4. To add other content types, enter them in the empty field and click Add. To remove a content type,
select it from the list and click Remove.
You have other options to configure proxy limits, General settings, Deny message, exceptions, URL paths, responses: Cookies other than content types.
