The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Norton 2003 uninstall/reinstall problem

Asked by WiZaRd in Network Software Firewalls, Consumer Firewalls

My sister has been pestering me for the last couple of days because she couldn't connect and browse web pages.
Being a Computer Tech I quickly figured out (by getting her to disable Norton Internet Security 2003 and finding it all worked fine) that a setting in Norton was the problem.
Compared her settings over the phone with mine (I have had no problems whatsoever)and found they were about the same. Nothing in her exclusion list struck me as essential but with the program enabled she couldn't browse or get email.
Suggested she uninstall/reinstall and that's where the real problems started. Computer asked for restart to continue with uninstall process. Since that has gone into a loop saying something like "you need to uninstall before you can reinstall".
Tried and failed:
1.Downloaded Norton files from Symantec site Rnav2003.exe and Rnis2003.exe. Neither of them fixed the problem.
2. System Restore
3. Safe mode uninstall
4. Reinstall over the top (same uninstall error)
5. Regcleaner (still has something in registry apparently)

Any suggestions before I go the old format & reload direction (she's a long way off and I really don't want to try steering her through a format & reinstall over the phone given that everything else works fine).
Anyone who knows me may be familiar with the story of how I spent hours on the phone helping my sister (the same one, the only one in fact) retrieve Windows 95 from the recycle bin (manually). To date I have yet to hear of anyone else achieving this feat but I'm not in the mood to try and better it. Am I drawing a clear picture here? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
