Question

Checkpoint FW with Win2k Radius authentication

Asked by: Shoeb_786

Hi Experts

We have the following requirement ,

We need to authenticate our VPN client (which are using Checkpoint Secure client) to get authenticated by RADIUS server.

Has anyone already have this setup. If yes then please give a step - by step procedure of how to setup dial-in users (secure-remote users) get authenticated by Active directory.

Our old setup with Windows NT4.0 used to run smoothly.

Regards

This is a huge undertaking.  We did this and there is a step by step article on CheckPoints website.  Take a look:

We have this working. I disagree with Joe, it was not a major problem at all. Took about 20 minutes to setup.

It was setup as follows:
- RADIUS server is on protected network behind NG FP3hf1 firewall, on Windows 2000 SP4 (SP3 works too) running Internet Authentication Service (IAS)

- Open NG GUI
- Create host for IAS server
- Add a "server" pointing to IAS server host, change "service" to "RADIUS"
- Create a shared secret for the RADIUS service
- Set Version to "Ver 2.0 compatible"
- Create / modify User called "generic*"   (without quotes)
- Create User Group "VPN Users"
- Change Authentication Scheme to RADIUS, and select RADIUS server on drop-down list
- Add User to "VPN Users" group
- Create new rule in rulebase:   Source = "VPNUsers@Any"   Dest = "Any"   Service = "Any"  Action = "Client Encrypt"

- Open IAS GUI
- Add firewall as allowed IAS client
- Type and verify shared secret setup before
- Change "Remote Access Policies" / "Allow access if dial-in permission is enabled", set to 1
- Make sure the IAS server is a member of the AD domain

- On AD DC, Users and Computers
- Grant "Dial-in" permission to each user who needs to authenticate via RADIUS

This should work. If you have problems, reply back to this group with specific errors.
